Commissioner Gary Christmann is a native of Saint Louis and has a passion for Public Safety. Mr. Christmann has over 24 years of paid and volunteer experience in several areas within emergency services. Mr. Christmann has worked in areas to include hospital emergency rooms, emergency medical services, volunteer fire, public health, incident management teams, disaster response and instructional work.

Mr. Christmann has worked for the City Emergency Management Agency for more than 20 years. The Commissioner's duties include the coordination of all phases of Emergency Management Prevention, Preparedness, Response, Recovery, and Mitigation. All phases are coordinated to address an All-Hazards approach for large emergencies to catastrophic incidents. Coordination takes place within all levels of government, military, medical facilities, volunteer agencies, large gathering venues, business, industry, and citizens to prepare for the impact of a catastrophic incident and how to recover from such an incident. With the City of St. Louis being home of a large chemical industry, hub for rail, several professional sports teams, third largest inland port, and a transportation hub, the recovery from a catastrophic event is key to the nation's economy.

Mr. Christmann currently holds chair positions the St. Louis Area Maritime Security Council (AMSC) and the Greater St. Louis Incident Stress Management team (CISM), he is a Board member of the St. Louis Area Regional Response System (STARRS), Greater St. Louis Health Care Coalition, Executive Budget Committee (STARRS), and is a member of the oversight and operations group for the Regional Complex Coordinated Terrorist Attack (CCTA) planning. 

Mr. Christmann is a member of a Federal and a State Response Team and has responded to numerous disaster and special events to include New York City World Trade Center (9/11), multiple hurricane responses, the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, the 2004 G-8 Summit and the 2012 Republican National Convention in addition to several other special assignments.
