The City of St. Louis has issued a request for proposals to select a vendor to install smart kiosks within the City.
Smart kiosks provide public Wifi and information on points of interest, events, transportation options, and community attractions.
Smart Kiosks also enhance public safety through built-in panic functions and the ability to broadcast alerts. “We are always looking for ways to better serve the public,” Mayor Lyda Krewson said.
“These kiosks are part of our Smart Cities Initiative, which focuses on using technology to more efficiently deliver services, enhance public safety, and expand internet access.”
The plan under consideration calls for a vendor to install kiosks near civic attractions, and in business districts upon request. Kiosks will be installed, operated and maintained at no cost to taxpayers.
The City’s kiosk initiative is being led by Chief Technology Officer Robert Gaskill-Clemons in coordination with St. Louis Development Corporation, Downtown St. Louis, Tower Grove Neighborhoods Community Development Corporation, and Bi-State Metro.
“Smart City Technologies have an enormous potential to improve citizen services in Downtown and that’s why Downtown STL, Inc. has been working for the past two years to bring new technologies to our community,” said Missy Kelley, president and CEO of Downtown STL. By “incorporating Smart City technology, St. Louis will be showcased as proactive in how our City communicates critical information and provides more services to its residents." said Sean Spencer, executive director of the Tower Grove Neighborhoods Community Development Corporation.
