City residents now have increased opportunities to drop off trash and other unwanted items at the City’s two transfer stations, Mayor Lyda Krewson announced Thursday.
The city’s transfer stations, also known as the two City dumps, at 201 North Humboldt Avenue and 4100 South First Street, are now operating seven days a week, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Additionally, residents can now drop off trash, yard waste, recycling, bulk items, car batteries, motor oil, appliances and car tires up to 12 times per year, regardless of the month, under a new policy Krewson initiated. Under the old policy, residents were restricted to dropping off unwanted items to once per month.
"The old rule limited drop off to once a month, which made it difficult for people cleaning out their garages or their basements who need to make more than one trip in the same month," Krewson said. "I'm in favor of anything we can do to make things a little easier on people."
- If you're a homeowner, bring your driver’s license or state ID, and a recent combined Water/Solid Waste Fee statement.
- If you're a renter, bring your driver’s license or state ID, and a recent utility bill showing you live in the City.
- Prior to arrival, review the full list of what will be accepted and what will NOT be accepted for disposal on the City website.
