Overview

The City’s Cold Weather Operations and Shelter process includes continuous shelter availability beginning December 1 through February 29 with an activation threshold for the months of October to November and March when nightly temperatures fall below 32°F.

Cold Weather Outreach Activation*

October to November 2019 and March 2020

Cold weather outreach goes into effect for the City of St. Louis when nightly temperatures fall below 32°F.

December 1, 2019 - February 29, 2020

The City transitions to continuous shelter availability, regardless of the forecasted temperature outside. The City has contracted with providers to offer additional winter overflow beds.

Shelter Access

To access an emergency shelter bed, please contact the following:

  • Call United Way 211
  • Go to the St. Patrick Center Welcome Center (800 N. Tucker) between 8 am - 4 pm 
  • Meet at the warming buses  located at the intersection of 13th and Chestnut between 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm (only during Cold Weather Outreach Activation*)
  • If an Emergency Call 911

 

Outreach Team

Forecasts of freezing temperatures for the St. Louis metropolitan area is a main concern for the City of St. Louis.

Through partnerships with nonprofit agencies, volunteer groups and various departments within the City, cold weather operations efforts include increased outreach activities and additional shelter bed availability to accommodate unsheltered homeless men, women, and children.  Organizations who participate in outreach:
